Knowing that the repair man is coming this morning made it my urgent duty to start off the day cleaning the kitchen floor. On HGTV’s shows, comments such as, “It’s gotta be ripped out!” or, “Gut it all!” are the norm. It shocks me how much is demolished simply because people want more.
As my Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and I made short work of the floor this morning, I prayed. It seemed that the linoleum squares had messages in them of people in desperate need, so as I scrubbed, my prayers increased. When I got to the long scrape line in the linoleum at one point, I thought of the scars in our lives and how no matter how hard we can try to take make them go away, not even Mr. Clean can repair that scrape or scar. We need to, “Gut it all!” Living with repeated behavior that damages us will just create more scars, until our lives are nearly unbearable.
We can live with it, try to clean it up by ourselves and make it look good on the outside, or we can change it completely, from the inside out – just like ripping up old linoleum and putting down a beautiful tile! We cannot do it by ourselves, but God can show us the way. He can take our dirty and torn up lives and make us brand new! The old will be gone and the new comes – true happiness and contentment will take over and there is no need to fake anything – we become truly clean, on the inside and the outside.
So, maybe our lives are like an HGTV show a bit, after all! Let God gut your life and make you something beautiful.
2 Corinthians 5:17
If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; all things have become new.
This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again.
Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
