My, how I hate house cleaning! It has to be one of the things I dread the most and gets put off as long as possible! Some rooms are worse than others, especially when it’s easy to just shut the door if someone stops by…
Today, I decided to tackle our bedroom. It’s the worst room to do, as I almost always need help to move the bed, the mattress and box springs in order to vacuum or dust. I even got a nice start on the closet! Let me tell you, I had quite a sneezing spell during it, which means it had waited too long.
I always wonder why I hate it so much, because when it is done, it feels so good to know that it is clean. It looks better, smells better and feels better! (I even climbed into bed this afternoon to take a little nap, when normally I would do that right on the living room couch.)
There are many ways to clean house, spiritually speaking. Instead of dust, dirt, and messiness, it could be watching inappropriate things on tv, or going to movies that you shouldn’t be seeing. Maybe you are holding onto some special things or pictures of people from your past that create thoughts you might still be cherishing. The computer can bring in the dirt, too, if you let it – maybe it’s time to put it in a wide open location or install blocks when you can’t control the problem yourself. Maybe the words that come out of your mouth fills the air with filth! Sometimes it’s just simply a lack of cleaning that keeps your “house” dirty.
When you are ready to clean your spiritual house, try listening to good music with uplifting lyrics, keep good dvd’s and tv programs on to keep feeling good. Try posting a picture of your child or a Bible verse to the screen of your computer to remind you to keep it pure every time you log on. Pray over your home and before long you will feel so much better being in a “clean” place! Looks good, smells good, feels good!!!
1 Peter 2:1-3 1 So clean house! Make a clean sweep of malice and pretense, envy and hurtful talk. 2 Now, like infants at the breast, drink deep of God’s pure kindness. Then you’ll grow up mature and whole in God. 3 You’ve had a taste of God. 4 Welcome to the living Stone, the source of life.
Colossians 3:1-2 “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
